Cancer research is often contrasted with various statistics, which somehow prove the opposite of various theories. However, a study of the relationship between hot beverages and an increased risk of laryngeal and esophageal cancer, which was published by experts in oncology in the USA, agitated the public and some other researchers. The fact is that experts presented a study, according to which they directly bred the increased risk of esophageal and laryngeal cancer and the consumption of hot drinks after a certain age – and the results are really interesting!
The article with the results of the study has already appeared in the latest issue of the scientific journal International Journal of Cancer, where experts clarify that they took a database of more than 50,000 people aged 40 to 75 years living in Iran and Golestan, who are particularly a culture of drinking hot tea is developed. On average, each of these people consumed about 700 ml of hot tea per day, and exploring this aspect for physiological consequences, the scientists concluded that exceeding this volume threshold with a probability of up to 90% increases the risk of developing and sufficiently rapid cancer of the larynx or esophagus .
At the same time, they note that the average temperature of the drink is about 60 degrees Celsius – lower temperatures somewhat reduce this risk, but everything depends in the end on the age indicator of a particular participant under study. It is worth noting that a similar study analyzing the factors of laryngeal cancer has been presented earlier.
A previous study also suggested that the systematic consumption of hot drinks — especially in the above-average volume — somehow weakens the natural defenses of the oral and esophageal cavities, thereby increasing the risk of this type of cancer.
