Today, a group of microbiology researchers from McMaster University presented the results of their new study on the creation of new ultra-efficient cells within the human immune system with the aim of preserving and carrying various drug molecules to fight various diseases. Considering the fact that our immune system often destroys not only dangerous cells, but also useful ones, it becomes clear why there is such a significant priority in the development and improvement of such cells – and even more so because a new study concerns changes in existing red blood cells.
The fact is that it is red blood cells that are the most common in our body – and therefore a team of researchers decided to use them as hidden carriers of various drug molecules. To do this, they needed to create a new technique by which scientists literally empty some of the selected red blood cells and fill them with synthetic liposome, which, in turn, can retain a fairly large number of diverse molecules aimed at eliminating one or another immune threat.
Thus, thanks to the new technology, a team of specialists from McMaster University was able to present another smart and rational way to preserve and transfer drug molecules bypassing the internal tools and mechanisms of the immune system, which is often hot in the arm and endangers not only infected cells, but also those that are absolutely safe for the media.
So far, the team has to conduct a lot of additional research and laboratory tests of its new development, however, it is already becoming clear how convenient and interesting the new technology is becoming. Since it allows you to hide and transfer several types of molecules at once, in the future it will probably receive its logical development and continuation in the form of separate carriers of molecules.
