Gluten is a substance that is included in some cereals, including wheat. Exclusion from the menu of such food will help reduce the risk of developing gluten neuropathy. With this pathological process, weakness, numbness, pain in the arms and legs are felt. In addition, one should not forget about the gastroenterological side of the issue – abdominal distension, acute flatulence, and abdominal pain can also trigger a nervous breakdown.
So, experts at the University of Sheffield found that the level of gluten susceptibility may be associated with the risk of developing peripheral neuropathy. With this disease, the nerve endings of the spinal cord and brain are damaged. After studying the clinical picture of people with this diagnosis, it was found that 32% of them had an increased susceptibility to gluten.
Clinical studies have shown that people who gave up gluten and followed a strict diet were 89% less likely to suffer from nervous diseases.
Of course, it is not necessary to completely exclude cereals from your diet, as this may adversely affect the work of the whole organism. Before you begin to follow this diet, it is better to consult with your doctor and, perhaps, even get tested.
